Welcome to Mike On The Buses

I have autism which means I see things from a different angle and this has led me to try and fix the Greater Manchester broken bus network, The research I’m undertaking is exhaustive but is providing to be very interesting and shows how much of a mess our current network and patronage is down and car use up.
Since the deregulation powers was given in October 1986, The Greater Manchester Bus network was about to crumble into utter fansey with multiple different operators all fighting over routes and passengers which led to a bus war and once the worst of the war was over the residents of Greater Manchester started feel pinch as bus routes was being switched and cut left right and centre. Which has led to the shambolic state of the network today and no one has ever been bothered to carry out a in depth research on a recover plan which looks at cost cutting, congestion reducing and ultimate connectivity of the routes that serve Greater Manchester.

It no wonder people of Greater Manchester don’t want to use buses these days because if you want to get from A-B you got to go via XYZ to reach your destination or you live on two way street with a one way bus route, For example I researched one historical route linking Westwood Park in Eccles to Irlam O’th Heights via Salford Royal and that route is now replaced by 16 routes covering various parts of the route. how is that economical and saving the organisation money.

I’m starting to blog about this subject and giving my take on routes improvements if devolution ever happens to our buses. I’m all for cutting bus routes, saving money and removing cars but not for removing buses and replacing them with 16 routes or encouraging car usage.

I will post route proposals in my own styles with a route description and details and report on why i think the suggestion I make should be considered for the route in question and fully encourage everyone who reads the post to share and have there say on the routes and my suggestion of how to make routes better for all users of Great Manchester.

I have 3 simple aims, of which the routes must adhere to make the economically viable.

Aim 1 | Is cost reduction and operational funding – I’m making most of cross connecting routes without changes this doesn’t only save money but makes travelling easier

Aim 2 | Congestion | I’m tackling this in more ways than one, targeting bus stop which have not seen a bus for a year or longer, providing a set frequency guide for daytime running with no routes run more than every 30 Minutes with exception to cross boundary routes or captivity extras.

Aim 3 | Connections | I’m making sure all services, serve basic amenities like Attractions, Shopping District, Transport Hubs, Leisure, Medical and Workplaces.

This journey terminates here, I would like to remind all passengers to leave the vehicle clean and tidy and remember too take all your personal belongings with you as I don’t have the capacity to hold any lost property aboard this service

Thanks for riding with Inspector Mike from On The Buses
